Unmasking the Strong Black Woman

What would your life feel like if you didn’t have to be strong for everyone all the time? My latest book, Unmasking the Strong Black Woman, helps you finally put the weight down.

founder of The Frugal Feminista, which was created from a deep place of love, advocacy, and joy that comes from understanding the brilliance and beauty of black women; and knowing the role that money can play in helping them live life on their own terms.

I help women heal their relationship with money so they can play BIG with it- save with soul, demolish debt, retire in abundance, invest with ease, and scale their wealth without deprivation. Essentially, I teach women how to give themselves permission to grow their money and enjoy their money.

Being a Black woman in today's society is tough enough. Being a 'strong' Black woman - and all the expectations that come with that word - puts additional pressure on us. This book reminds me that my first responsibility is to strengthen myself spiritually, emotionally, mentally, financially, socially, politically and in any other way that's necessary to have a good quality of life.

Kara Stevens discusses why believing in the “Strong Black Women” stereotype is dangerous. She offers wonderful insight into the history of this misconception and suggests ways to combat it. It’s refreshing and gives all of us permission to feel our feelings and take loving care of ourselves. Let the healing begin.

Being a black woman in America is hard. I loved that this book highlights the pressures of black Women to fit this unrealistic mold of strength and perfection. Black women have endured a lot mentally, physically, & emotionally, and we continue to stress ourselves out thinking we can carry the world on our shoulders. this book dives deeper into the dynamics of falling victim to society’s token phrase “strong black woman”. Black women are still humans and we don’t have to be strong all the time. Acknowledging the importance of self care and healthy boundaries are essential to improving instead of being an impostor. This book was a quick read. I recommend this book to black and non black readers.
