If you are struggling to sleep right now, you certainly aren’t alone. Every day the news seems to bring new horrors, from COVID-19 deaths to businesses closing down to protests and riots on our streets. It’s tough, whether you have personal worries, perhaps concerns about your health, your career, or your future. Worries about your family or you are just anxious about everything that is going on in the world.

It’s no wonder that all of this anxiety is making it hard for many of us to sleep. If you are spending your night’s tossing and turning, worrying about everything that you’ve seen and heard, or wondering what tragedy will occur next, you are in good company. But, knowing that doesn’t necessarily help. So, let’s take a look at some things that you can do to help yourself sleep when the world spins in chaos.

Choose Your News Carefully

The news is pretty terrifying right now, and it’s often made worse when we take in too much of it. Different channels and sources present different points of view and different arguments. They can make different bad guys out of the same story quite easily. It can be confusing and upsetting. It’s often best to find a source that you trust and stick to it.

Limit Your Social Media Intake

Social media is very similar, but with more shouting and judgment. If you are struggling to rest, stay off social media, or at least limit how much time you spend on these platforms.

Switch Off Before Bed

If you are struggling to sleep, you might find that switching off your phone, computer, and maybe even your TV off for an hour or so before bed will help you to unwind, making sleep easier to come by. Try reading a book, listening to music, or meditating instead.

Find Ways to Relax

We all have different ways to relax and unwind, whether it’s exploring options from cheebas and alternatives, or taking a long walk when you are feeling tense. You might prefer a massage, or a long, hot bath. You may enjoy losing yourself and leaving your worries behind as you sink into a long book.

Organize Your Time

It’s hard to keep going at the moment. You might feel a little lost. Try to reduce these feelings by managing your time. Write to-do lists, think about what you want to get done, and try to tackle something every day, to give yourself purpose.

Give Your Body What it Needs

How is your physical health? Tension and anxiety might be leading to muscle aches and headaches. Listen to it. If your body needs to stretch, do it. If it needs a break, give it some rest.

If You Can’t Sleep, Get Out of Bed

Often the biggest cause of not being able to sleep is not being able to sleep. We lie awake tossing and turning, getting stressed out because we can’t sleep. So, stop trying. Get up, read a book, watch some TV, and have a warm drink. Try again later.

If you are seriously struggling to sleep, and these tips aren’t helping, you might want to consider speaking with your doctor or seeking other medical advice.
