Most people like to look their best as much as possible, but this doesn’t always come easily. We live busy lives and while making an effort everyday comes naturally to some people, it might not be a major part of your life or your day.

If you do want to try to feel more comfortable in your own skin, you might try some beauty regimes and techniques to improve your general appearance.

While it’s generally understood that there is such a thing as “pretty privilege,” the most important thing isn’t what others think of your looks. It’s how you feel when you catch your reflection in the mirror.

Confidence

Speaking of which, let’s talk about the most important step to looking great this summer and at any time of your life. Confidence is key.

If you are comfortable with yourself and feel confident about your appearance and personality, it comes across. You smile more, you meet people’s eyes, you don’t shy back and try to hide who you are. A lot of the time, this has a massive impact on how attractive you are to other people.

Unfortunately, confidence doesn’t come naturally to everyone. If you don’t have a high self esteem and you’re not comfortable with how you look, you might feel as though you can’t win. Well, following some of the upcoming beauty tips will help to an extent, but you should also look into your mental and emotional wellbeing.

First, bear in mind that confidence and arrogance aren’t the same thing. Also, you don’t have to be the life of the party to be confident. It’s not a matter of extroversion over introversion. It’s a state of mind that we can all attain to improve.

The people and attitudes we surround ourselves with can massively affect our confidence. People who were bullied or had difficult upbringings might be more likely to struggle. As much as you can, try to find people who build you up rather than tear you down. Don’t focus on what you can’t do compared to other people, but look into your strengths.

Everyone has strengths and something they can be proud of. Even if it takes a little work to find yours, this is a great first step to appreciating yourself for who you are.

General Health

If you look after yourself, you won’t just improve how you feel, but you’ll also improve how you look. Essentially, you can look like the best and healthiest version of yourself. 

Take care of your body by making sure you eat the right foods. If you eat healthily, you will be able to maintain a healthy weight, and you’ll also find that your skin and hair look better. You will also have more energy, which can help with the confidence mentioned before. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water as well.

Sleep is called “beauty sleep” for a reason. If you miss a night or two of sleep, it’s displayed quite clearly on your face and body. Good sleep makes you look and feel so much better. You’re also brighter and less irritable if you regularly sleep well.

Keeping fit is a great way to improve your appearance and confidence in one fell swoop. You don’t necessarily need any specific goals beyond being active on a regular basis, but it can help to keep you motivated.

For many women, hair is a huge part of their beauty. Unfortunately, hair can also be a fickle beast. A hair care routine that works for one person might be terrible for someone else.

The most important thing to consider if you want beautiful hair is to figure out the best way to keep your hair healthy. From there, the length, style, and color of your hair is pretty much up to you and your personal style. But you need a foundation of healthy hair for the best results every time.

First step, know your hair. Different people have different hair types, all of which need to be cared for in different ways. Some people even have two hair types, but we’ll keep it simple for now. 

On one extreme, you have 1A hair. What is type 1A hair? It is straight, sleek, and beautiful. On the other hand, you might have 4C hair, which features tight curls and is also, you guessed it, beautiful. There’s no such thing as a bad hair type, just bad care.

Once you know your hair type, you can research the best way to look after it. Some people need to wash their hair regularly for the best results, while others should wash it more sparingly and focus on conditioning it to keep it healthy and prevent breakages.

You should also use products that are designed with your hair in mind. When styling your hair, try to steer clear of harsh chemicals and heat that can damage your hair. If you do want to use heat to style your hair, make sure you use products to protect and repair your hair from any damage.

The same applies if you want to dye your hair a certain color. If you’re drastically changing your hair color, always get it done professionally. Major hair color changes might involve multiple bleaches and treatments, which can be damaging to your hair if you don’t look after it carefully. 

Skincare

On another note, healthy skin is also considered more attractive. 

Much like hair, there are different skin types to consider when working out how to care for your skin.

They can be broken down into oily skin, dry skin, normal skin, and combination skin (dry and oily patches). Most people with dry skin also have sensitive skin, so they need to be careful about what products they use as they might be prone to dryness, dermatitis, or eczema. 

You also want to use the right products for your skin type. You don’t want to use a product that is designed for oily skin if you have dry skin because it might dry your skin out further. 

As a general rule, most people benefit from at least cleansing and moisturizing their skin in the morning and evening. This will keep your skin looking clean, bright, and healthy. 

You should also use sunscreen on your face every day, and keep some with you. Sunburn is the leading cause of skin damage and can lead to cancer if you’re not careful. Regular sunscreen application can prevent early signs of aging due to sun damage. If you do get burnt, use aftersun to soothe your skin.

If you have a skin condition, you might need medical help to treat it properly. This way, you will look and feel your best.

Keeping on the subject of skincare, makeup is a great way to beautify yourself. However, it’s important to use makeup that’s kind to your skin type. Some makeup can lead to oily skin or can irritate sensitive skin.

Wash your face at the end of the day so your skin can breathe properly. 

Your makeup style depends on your preferences and the occasion. Some people look stunning with a bare face, some prefer a subtle application of makeup to hide blemishes and highlight features, and others enjoy being artistic with their makeup.

Makeup tutorials and plenty of practice can help you get to grips with using makeup properly, so you can get the most out of it and explore different looks and options.

Finally, you can’t think about looking great without talking about fashion.

Being fashionable doesn’t just mean following the latest trends or buying the most expensive clothes you can get your hands on. The best way to be fashionable is to develop a personal style that you feel comfortable with.

You can integrate some trends into your everyday life and clothing choices, but they don’t need to dominate it.

As long as you like your clothes, you will look and feel more comfortable and confident in them. Make sure you buy clothes that fit properly as well. Clothing that is too tight isn’t flattering and you won’t feel comfortable. Oversized clothing can also fit poorly. Work out your measurements, try on different outfits, and focus on what fits, not the number on the label.

Construct your outfits with care. You want your clothes to fit you, not the other way around. 

So, when it comes to developing your personal style, give yourself time to experiment with different options. Look for inspiration. Maybe there’s a subculture you like, or perhaps you prefer certain color schemes, materials, or types of cuts.

There’s no right or wrong answer to your personal style. You can also switch things up depending on your mood. Do you fancy a flowery, floaty summer dress to feel pretty for a day? Or would you rather be comfortable and cool with shorts, sneakers, and a vest top or t-shirt? Both of these are great casual options, the trick is being happy with your choices.
